Rising through the Chaos

18th to 20th   November 2020:  RELI Uganda held its annual convening themed Advancing Learning for All in Challenging times at Fairway Hotel Kampala. It kicked off with opening remarks from Dr. Mary Goretti Nakabugo, the RELI Uganda co lead and Dr. Joyce Malombe who thanked members present and encouraged them to continue rising through the chaos.

The three-day event, mainly characterized by thematic groups presentations, special interest groups discussions as well as policy engagement conversations with Ministry of Education and Sports officials, was a special moment in which member synergies were rekindled in their continuity to advance learning in spite of the challenging context.

Important to note were the informative presentations from the 3 clusters: Life skills, Teacher Development and Support, Equity and Inclusion that unveiled learning experiences during this Covid-19 era to ensure continuity of learning and their future roadmaps. Mauro Giacomazzi and Dr. Purity Ngina shared highlights from the Assessing Life skills and Values (AliVE).  Dr Mary Goretti Nakabugo and Janet Namatovu led an informative session on the Human Centred Design approach of the Schools2030 project.

Mr. Kamwana Jonathan, Commissioner, Teacher/Tutor Instructor Education and Training (TIET) and Ms Sarah Bugoosi Kiboole, Commissioner Special Needs Education, Ministry of Education and Sports graced the event in person. Ms Kiboole shared highlights on the National Inclusive Education policy stressing its harmony with other existing policies in ensuring that all the diverse learner needs are met. Mr. Kamwana called upon members to collaborate with MoES in implementing the National Teacher Policy so as to improve on the quality of the teacher we produce.

This moment was also an opportunity for members to interface with new RELI member organisations such as VVOB education Uganda and CSAG.

The event closed off with appreciation remarks from Dr. Joyce Malombe and Mauro Giacomazzi (RELI Uganda Country co Lead) who appreciated members’ relentless efforts in making the event happen.
